Health- as described by Hahnemann in the Organon

THE UNCLOUDED NATURAL HEALTHYHUMAN STATE [§ 248 & 274] (gesund = healthy, sound)

  • Intr.68 fn health = the harmony of Life,
  • §.29 The Dynamis, so freed, can now continue Life again in health.
  • Images of sicknessvs. health:

  • Intr.56fn (... the fruit in the womb also becomes restless, writhes and kicks, however, only if the mother is sick but floats quietly in its water without causing the mother pain if she is healthy.)
  • The Living Power canbe made to feel as if it were momentarily healthy.

  • §.69 .4 In the first minutes the Living Power feels healthy and is sensible of neither the stupor of opium nor the pain of disease.
  • §. 232 fn ... rapid periods of apparently heightened health and a tense heightening of the mental and corporeal powers can set in (an exaggerated hilarity, an all too active liveliness of the organism, excess of comfort, inordinate appetite, etc.),
  • Apparent health

  • §.78 fn In the most blooming years of youth and with the commencement of regular menstruation, coupled with a beneficial regimen for spirit, heart and body, they [true natural, chronic diseases] often remain indiscernible for several years; those afflicted then appear in the eyes of their relatives and acquaintances as if they were completely healthy and as if the disease, implanted into them through infection or heredity, were completely vanished; however, it comes inevitably anew to the fore in later years and with adverse events and relations in Life, and, increasing all the more rapidly, takes on an all the more onerous character the more the Living Principle has been deranged through enervating passions, grief and worry, especially, however, through inexpedient, medicinal treatment.
  • §.241 patients who enjoyed tolerably [good] health ... that is, who were not chronically sick with developed Psora.
  • TemporaryObstruction of Health:

  • §.67fn ..., the play of the life organs goes along [on] its previous healthy course, because no disease was to be done away with here, but rather only obstruction and suppression of the in itself healthy Living Power.
  • Conditions preventinghealth:

  • §.77. Those diseases are improperly called chronic which people suffer who expose themselves continually to AVOIDABLE noxae, habitually partake of harmful drinks or foods, abandon themselves to intemperances of all kinds which undermine health, dispense with the necessary requirements for Life, reside in unhealthy, especially swampy areas, house themselves only in cellars, damp workplaces or other confined quarters, suffer lack of exercise or open air, deprive themselves of their health by excessive physical or mental exertions, live in constant annoyance, etc.
  • Maintaining health:

  • §.244 ... a healthy person can in youth accustom himself even to marshy regions and remain sound if he carries on a faultless regimen and is not oppressed from deprivation, fatigue or destructive passions.
  • An individual's normalstate is not necessarily healthy.

  • §.126 The selected prover ... somatically healthy after his fashion.
  • §.90 ... what of all this data has been proper to the patient in his healthy days.
  • §.95 ... the patients become so accustomed to the long sufferings that they pay little or no attention to the smaller, often very characteristic accompanying occurrences ... and view them as almost a part of their natural state, well-nigh mistaking them for health, whose true feeling they have fairly well forgotten during the course of their fifteen to twenty year long suffering, [so that] it hardly occurs to them to believe that these accompanying symptoms, these remaining smaller or greater deviations from the healthy state, could have a connection with their main malady.
  • Becoming healthier:

§284 fn. ...children of pregnant women so treated [anti-psorically] come into the world far more healthy and robust -- to everyone's amazement.

§141 fn. Experience teaches ... that the organism of the prover becomes due to the various attacks on the healthy condition,, only the more practiced in warding off everything from the outer world that is inimical to his body, along with all artificial and natural disease malignities, also more seasoned against everything that is detrimental by means of such moderate self-provings with medicines.

§141 fn. His health becomes more invariable; he becomes more robust

THE STATES OF HEALTH (Hahnemann has epitomized the healthy states ofthinking, feeling, and willing through the following models)

The healthy state ofthinking - The Physician:

  • [§3, 16, 17fn, 54, 83, 84, 101, 104fn, 141, 274fn] The ... healthy physician ... rational, intelligent, unprejudiced, conscientious, fine-feeling, carefully delving, keenly and attentively observing, and investigating Therapeutic Artist is able to divinatorially behold and clearly discern the inner nature [Wesen] of things, the Genius [Wesen] of Life, in the healthy as well as the diseased, ... consulting nature sincerely and listening unprejudicedly to experience [with] impartiality and healthly senses, [with] attention while observing and fidelity in recording the image of the disease.
  • §81 fn... a genuine Therapeutic Artist who is aware that he is to judge and to cure not according to the nominal similarity of a single symptom, but according to the entire complex of all signs of the individual state of each single patient whose sufferings he has the duty to spy out exactly, never being permitted, however, to merely hypothetically presuppose them.
  • §100 ... the physician presupposes the pure image of each presently ruling disease as new and unknown, and he must explore it for himself from the ground up if he wants to be a genuine, thorough Therapeutic Artist who never sets conjecture in the place of perception, or ever assumes that the treatment for a case of disease charged to him is either entirely or partially known without carefully examining all of its manifestations...
  • §257...will know how to avoid making favorites of certain medicines and... §258... shall not out of suspicious weakness, slight medicines, employed here and there with disadvantage because of incorrect choice (therefore due to his own fault) or for other (ungenuine) reasons avoid them ... being mindful of the truth ... allowing no petty passions to interfere with this serious choice.
  • The healthyethics - The Physician:

§285 fn. A cardinal principle for the homeopathic Therapeutic Artist (which distinguishes him from every so-called physician of all older schools) is that with none of his patients does he employ any medicinal means whose morbid impinging actions on the healthy human being had not previously been carefully proven and familiar to him. (§ 20.- 21.)

§87 fn ... should never be guilty of seducing [the patient] with such suggestions into false answers and statements

§. 285.fn... never practicing without correct principles, never unconscionably gambling with the Life of the patient entrusted to him...

The healthy state offeeling - The Patient:

§9 In the healthy human state, the spirit-like Living Power (Autocracy) enlivening the material organism as Dynamis rules unrestrictedly and keeps all of its parts in admirable, harmonious, vital operation in both feelings and functions, so that our indwelling rational spirit can freely avail itself of this living healthy instrument for the higher purposes of our existence.

§148 The Living Principle again feels free and able to continue the life of the organism in health as formerly, and vitality is there again.

§253 In the case of an ever-so-slight beginning of improvement -- a greater comfort, an increasing composure, freedom of spirit, increased courage -- a kind of returning naturalness.

The impression takingcapacity - the Therapeutic Artist

  • [§64, 73, 69, 117, 275] ... our Living Power receives dynamic impressions from Entities (Wesen) of various sorts: Disease Potences, medicinal Potences, occasioning things which make the same impression on all human bodies, whether consciously or unconsciously ... by virtue of similar action...thereby modifying its condition, ... for example, physically vehement impressions ... can be [the] occasion of acute fevers. The Therapetic Artist also receives impressions of his patient's state of mind via his own Living Power, whereby he then characterizes said state.
  • ....and responsion:
  • §210fn ... the Therapeutic Artist feels impelled to bestow attention and sympathy upon the patient
  • §253 Among the signs which show a small beginning of improvement (NOT VISIBLE TO EVERYONE) ... a more self-conscious, helpless state of mind[Gem¸t], of the spirit, of the whole behavior, and of all attitudes, positions and actions, drawing more pity to itself, which [state] allows itself with exact attentiveness to be easily seen or shown but not to be easily described in words.
  •

The healthy state ofwilling - The Mesmerist:

  • §288 - 289. The most powerful genial will of a person of either sex gifted with great natural power in the full bloom of Living Power... [who] with great good nature and full-blown somatic power, and]in whom all the subtle Life Spirits used for the preparation of offspring are available in quantity and ready to be communicated ... is capable of good-natured enthusiasm in directing the human power of his prevailing geniality exclusively upon the object requiring his help, but also, as it were, to concentrate it there, thus occasionally working wonders [charging or discharging organisms].
