Thoughts on the Events of September 11, 2001
Logo

The events of September 11, 2001 have understandably raised a lot of emotions, anger and fear being the most notable, but also grief, and then, of course, as we see with our patients, guilt (often hidden and unconscious). This makes for a complex and potentially explosive mix given the layers and layers of meaning and analysis possible in this tragic situation. It is open to being taken personally, with value judgements, morality, etc. whether implied or intended, consciously or unconsciously. We are all operating at different levels of understanding and have different baggage to deal with.

Rather than debating, we should be seeking to understand, and we should have a lot of compassion for all who are trying to work through their pain.

We spent a few hours in Ottawa trying to come to terms with the meaning of the events, which, if it has the potential to plunge us into a third and likely last world war, then clearly has a deep meaning and also great potential for taking humankind to a higher level of consciousness and spirituality. Out of evil can come love, a paradox that is, nonetheless, an underlying feature of the universe.

The discussion is offered in three parts, and is available in MP3 format. Each file is approximately 5 MB in size.
